FADE IN:
EXT. FOREST SCENE. DAY
Begins by showing nothing but darkness, and then slowly zooms out from the darkness to reveal a small black box in MIKE's hands.
MIKE (V.O.)
It never really fades; it is just forgotten. Too bad the ignorance cannot last forever.
He reaches into the box and pulls out a piece of paper that has the word/name HOPE written on it. He stares at it and throws it out of the box.
MIKE
Pandora should have let HOPE out of the box when she could have.
MIKE observes as a raven flies down and picks up the paper, flying off with it shortly after. He smiles and walks away.
EXT. EXIT OF WOODS DAY
MIKE exits the woods, only to be greeted by a friend of his, STEVEN.
STEVEN
You know you really shouldn't spend too much time in the forest, MIKE. It's dangerous in there.
STEVEN makes ghost sounds and continues even after his next sentence.
STEVEN
There are evil things in there!
MIKE laughs with him, but takes a look over his shoulder with a concerned look. He stays quiet.
STEVEN
Look, I know it's hard to cope without HOPE around, but you have to deal with it. Maybe it'd be best if you avoided the woods from now on.
MIKE goes to protest against this idea. STEVEN silences him.
STEVEN
You shouldn't be tormenting yourself like this, buddy. It's just pointless to make yourself suffer.
MIKE begins lightly laughing as if he just remembered a funny joke. STEVEN gives him a weird look.
MIKE
Ever hear the joke about the guy who repeatedly hits himself on the head with a hammer?
STEVEN
No? How does it go?
MIKE
Another guy comes along and asks him why he keeps hitting himself. Guess what he replies.
STEVEN
Shit, I don't know. "Ouch" maybe.
MIKE shakes his head.
MIKE
Because it feels so good when I stop.
INT. LOCAL LIBRARY DAY
MIKE is seen sitting along a row of computers, typing away at an article he's working on. He powers the computer down and notices a female face (HOPE'S) in the reflection of the black screen. He turns around, but no one's there.
MIKE (V.O.)
This wasn't the first time that this happened. She was everywhere I looked.
He shakes his head, gets up and then walks away. Before exiting the library, he looks back at an empty round table. He sighs, and then leaves.
EXT. OUTSIDE LOCAL LIBRARY DAY
MIKE walks out into the blinding light, only to be attacked by a coworker.
COWORKER
MIKE! Have you gotten the article done for the boss yet?
MIKE
It was a bitch, but I think he'll like it.
COWORKER
Good! He'll like that. See you tomorrow.
MIKE stands there, a little confused by the sudden and short conversation. He looks from left to right, but doesn't seem to decide to go anywhere. He stands there quietly.
INT. MIKE'S APARTMENT DAY.
Cluttered apartment, papers everywhere. Window is covered with bad blinds and lets in a dusty light. That is the only light in the apartment. Most of it is covered in darkness. MIKE is sitting on a chair with no table or desk around him. He's sitting next to the wall and a small radio is playing a song (from the beginning).
SONG (HARRISBURG)
Romero got married on the fifth of July,
in our lady of immaculate dawn,
could have got married in the revival man's tent,
but there ain't no reviving what's gone.
MIKE leans down and shuts off the radio before the next line plays. He sits in silence, before getting up and grabbing a beer from his fridge in silence. He opens it and sits back down. He runs his hand though his hair and beginnings rapidly chugging the beer. Once finished, he throws it away.
MIKE (V.O.)
It was my only escape.

In celebration of the beginning of Script Frenzy, I have decided to post the general beginning of my script. Basically, this is the first few pages that I wrote. I hope you enjoy it!
