Hide and seek (poem)

Our relationship is a game
of hide and seek.
When the sun is up and shining,
you wait and count.
But when the light disappears
over the horizon,
you stir and crawl out
and begin to play.

Because you want to be hidden,
I hide in crowds,
buying me an hour or two of freedom
before you find me alone in the dark.
Then you hold me tight, whispering sweet horrors,
until the sun rises again.
