Capturing Beauty (poem)

I could write you down,
every little detail on your pale face,
the way you look about the room,
or how your laugh bounces,
but I can't make you memorable.
In three weeks I'll read it
and fail to remember a forgotten face.

I've loved countless sunsets,
but I couldn't describe one,
just an amalgamation of them:
everyday beauty is forgettable.
But we chase it nonetheless,
whether in the setting sun
or in a beautiful stranger.

You can try to capture it,
to take a quick picture
or write down a perfect description,
but you can't keep it.
Beauty is an experience:
the memory can only echo,
but only the moment holds it.
