Just Five Seconds (poem)

“Just five seconds,” she says,
her arms outstretched out to him.
He floats into her grip, the two intertwine,
“now I'm never going to let you go.”

Her honesty is playful,
a child with her eyes full of light,
her heart light with love,
his wishing he didn't have to go.

“You know I can't stay,”
he reminds her with a whisper in her ear.
“Sleep can wait till later,
just stay a little longer.”

He thinks of a thousand reasons to leave,
responsibilities, sleep, and so on,
“just five seconds,” he thinks to himself,
“but I'm never going to let her go.”
